BaBoWe* Post Two: Electric Boogaloo!

*Alana has pointed out that the acronym “BBW” has already been taken.

So, censorship and banned books. Pfah! I’d like to talk about one of my favorite books as a kid.

It’s called Maudie and Me and the Dirty Book. Now, I haven’t read it in years, but if you have any interest in tackling censorship on a child’s level, it’s a great place to start.

It’s a great little story and another one where censoring adults don’t give their kids enough credit. I really liked the characters of Kate and Maudie and would have loved to see more books featuring these two.
The “dirty” book? It’s a book about a dog giving birth. One of my favorite scenes involves Kate having to give a speech and practing saying the word “vagina” in front of a mirror. It’s something that’s stuck with me all these years.

If you have the time and you haven’t read it, I strongly recommend you hunt it down. Sure, it’s a kids book, but the lessons contained are pretty much universal, yes?
